Teaching Staff

Mrs. Debbie Marette (Owner/Administrator)

I am the owner and administrator of Blue Spruce Montessori School (established in 1997). I graduated from the Montessori training center of B.C. in 1994 with an A.M.I. (Association Montessori International) Montessori diploma and also a diploma in Early Childhood Education. I am now in my 20th year of teaching and still feel the same passion and enthusiasm for Montessori as I did upon graduating.

I am originally from England and have been a resident of Canada for over 20 years. I have extensive work experience with young children and a sincere and genuine interest in early childhood education. My teaching experience includes setting up and operating a Montessori primary school in North Vancouver, tutoring elementary children and teaching and administrating at my own school Blue Spruce Montessori.

I am dedicated to keeping current with childcare issues through professional development. Since graduating I have attended several conferences and refresher courses and have also acquired a diploma in E.C.E. administration. I continue learning and growing as a Montessori teacher and also as a mother of two beautiful daughters.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family. I also enjoy keeping fit, I love hiking, skiing and biking. I also enjoy collecting children's Literature, sewing and home decorating.

I have received my AMI Primary Diploma and an ECE Certificate in 2004 from Montessori Training Centre of BC. I have been working as a Montessori Primary teacher for around 10 years in Metro Vancouver area. In the past I had worked for Blue Spruce Montessori and gained a wonderful experience.

In 2010, I did my AMI Assistance to Infancy Training from Montessori Training Centre of BC.

I believe that Montessori Education is for life and should be introduced to children from birth. My sincere passion is to prepare an environment that supports each child on their natural path of development. My role is to provide them with necessary skills to function as a contributing member of society and to nurture their love of learning.

I would like to share my knowledge with parents in the community to understand the foundational years of the childhood. Parents are the most important part of the children’s life and they want the best for them. My belief is that we as an educator have the responsibility to spread the knowledge and awareness to the parents, so they can prepare the home environment according to the needs of the child.

I am the mother of six grown children and have enjoyed watching their growth and development over the years. I look forward to meeting all the children and families at Blue Spruce once again and sharing my passion and love for Montessori with you all.

My name is Afsha Hussainaly. I began my teaching career in 2002 after obtaining my Montessori diploma from North American Montessori Training and Early Childhood Education certificate from Sprott-Shaw Community College. My passion for teaching in a Montessori classroom began when I heard about all the exciting things that my nephew was learning in his Montessori classroom. It is my goal to bring that joy to the children in their learning environment.

I was born and raised in Burnaby. I recently married in March 2016. In my spare time I enjoy hiking, playing badminton, spending time with my niece and nephew and volunteering in my community.

I look forward being a part of the Blue Spruce Montessori team and making a difference in the children's lives.
